The New 36 Views of Mt Fuji:
Merging the Old with the New
The New 36 Views of Mt Fuji: Merging the Old with the New is my first book and working on it led me to create 3 more books. I have always been interested in Hokusai’s work. Growing up I often saw Hokusai’s print ‘The Great Wave Off of Kanagawa’ and I loved it. It was so beautiful with the contrasting colors and the way your attention is drawn to Mt Fuji by the shape of the wave. It seemed to me that his print beautifully captured the very essence of Japan. Even if you don’t know much about Japan, if you see his print you’ll know it is Japanese. In this book you’ll see all 46 views (there are 36 original views and then 10 more were added later because the original prints were so popular) as well there is some interesting information about ukiyo-e in general, a short bio on Hokusai, and some other work based on Hokusai’s prints. There are also descriptions that give you more background about each print and the location. I also have a map that shows you where in Japan each print is supposedly set. As well there are some other prints based on other Hokusai works that I remade from his old sketches and now they are completely redone but in vibrant color. Keep in mind that the examples seen here are sample images. The images found in my books are of an even higher quality. The images found in my book are the highest quality images possible and you won’t find better looking ukiyo-e prints anywhere.
